Browning A 5 Grades?
I have a Browning A 5 shotgun, the but plate reads Browning automatic and in the middle has FN, the receiver is engraved, and the safety is in front of the trigger. I would like to know what to look for to tell what grade the rifle is?

The degree of engraving and ornamentation is going to probably be the determining factor. Light scroll work was the norm for the standard model. Plain, matte, or vent rib?

The receiver has patterns engraved on the side, around the edges, what do I need to look for? 0 -
Sounds like what you have is a pre-war model. Look on pg 321 of the current edition of the Blue Book--tha tmay help you in identification. 0 -

Some of the older Browning shotguns were chambered for shorter than the standard cartridges. Before you shoot the gun make sure of the chamber length. 0
