Bolt action cleaning question????

    bolts should be cleaned like the rest of the rifle, aleast onece a year if used for hunting. If you have an unalterd m-98 mauser, just put the safty in the middle position (straight up) and push in the bolt lock (small pin on the bolt shroud) and unscrew the firing pin assy. If you have a scope safty it get more complicated.

    If you use corrosive ammo the bolt face and firing pin should be cleaned every time you shoot.

    I clean every gun after every time I shoot it. I know you don't have to theoretically, but I just can't stand a dirty gun.

    It does not harm to clean gun every time after shooting it, plus enjoy doing it.

    Thanks guys. I clean every time but was just a little leary of takin one apart. I'll try that link Diesel. I now have a Browning A-Bolt 30-06, a Ruger 77 in 22-250, and a Sporterized Mauser in .280. I have kinda just been soakin them in Hoppes and cleaning as best I can then adding a little oil....
