questions about the condition of a barrel

This is after at least an hour of scrubbing with various solvents. It was pretty caked in cosmoline when I first got it. Is this pitting? What does pitting in a barrel look like? What about my other question about which rifle you'd modify, which you'd leave alone?

Pitting looks like pitting. Believe me. You can tell. It looks like anything rusty that has been cleaned off and left a rough, pock marked surface. Pitts in a barrel look like crap. Even a small amount is pretty easy to spot if the barrel is clean. They also pick up lint from the rag you pass thru so it looks like the barrel is growing hair.
I have lost some ability to see in the last five or seven years so I can't see the barrel problems like I used to. But I can use reading glasses and high intensitiy light, and I can still spot that kind of damage for the most part.

I appreciate the reply. Do you think that the "scrapes" that I'm seeing is something to be concerned about? I know this is a difficult question to answer. The bore is shiny bright, it just looks a bit scratched in some places.

pitting looks like pot holes on a road, can't miss that, i don't know what type of solvent you used, but something like shooters choice should take out copper fouling, if not try J-B bore cleaner, follow directions on each, followed by oil & clean patch.

IF SHRATCHES REMAIN YOU MIGHT THINK ABOUT RETURNING IT FOR ANOTHER ONE.
