It's worth between $500 and $20,000, depending upon how much of it is original.

    Thanks for the info.
Can you tell me how I find out what is original. I am new at this.

Pull the op-rod back, look into the opening ahead of the receiver, does the barrel date match the receiver date? Are all the parts carring the same mfg code ? Has it ever been refinished, including the stock ? Are the stock cartuches readable ?

Some guys like a mag full of lead, I still prefer one round to the head.

While Tailgunner is correct, I suspect that you don't have the experience with M1s to determine the answers to his questions.

Your serial # indicates that your rifle is one of the early gas trap models. Only a handful of original rifles exist; most have been converted to gas port configuration and the receiver has been modified to prevent 7th round stoppage. In addition, most have been through rebuilding and refinishing, with replacement of most parts. You could write a book about what how to identify M1 varieties (actually, > 20 books HAVE been written on the subject).

Identification of your rifle probably cannot be done on this forum. If you have high quality digital photos and can post or email them, we may be able to help you. The folks on the Culver Shooting Page M1/M14 Forum (www.jouster.com) may be able to help you, but photos are a must. Otherwise, you will need to find a local collector who can examine it.
