NOTHING is going to shoot better than a model 700 Remington in a production rifle.I would think a good quality scope in the 3-10 or 4-12 range would work well for varmints and deer. 0 -
ddhotbot, Since I replied to the earlier post I feel obligated to reply here also! Go get you a Model 700ADL synthetic in 25-06 and then go get you a 4-12 Nikon Monarch(not Buckmasters, MONARCH!!!) You will have a great gun to shoot varmints to deer. Break the barrel in like it was a match barrel!! You will have a heat seeking missle firing gun that will make you a beleiver!!! The scope will cost you almost what the gun does but it's worth it!! GHD 0 -
ddhotbot-- You have made an outstanding choice in calibers. There are several choices for good rifles as far as brand is concerned, Browning, Ruger, Savage, Winchester...but personally, I would go with the Remington 700 BDL. The 700 ADL will shoot the same as the BDL, but the BDL is a little more "classy," and there would be a day I would be glad I had spent the extra money.
As far as scopes and mounts are concerned, it would be either Leupold or Burris.
You are buying a first class rifle. Don't go second class on the optics.0 -
Rafter-S, The reason I suggest the ADL synthetis is that the solid stock( wood or synthetic) lends itself to better accuracy because of the stiffer configuration. How many BR rifles have you ever seen with detachable mags or hinged floorplates? Just my opinion and we'll probably get several replies because of the questions raised. I will agree with you on the aesthetic question on the BDL but beg to disagree on the accuracy inherent on the solid stock. GHD 0 -
Remington Sendero, Leupold, Burris, Nikon, or a Weaver Grand Slam.

groundhog-- I could easily live with an ADL synthetic stock rifle. It would make an excellent utility rifle the way I use them (carried in the front seat of my pickup). By the way, have you seen Walmart's price on the ADL's. It's about $3-$5 over wholesale. 0 -
Don't over look Zeiss scopes. I have used and own most brands of scopes. I like the Zeiss Conquest scope. They start at around 400.00
great quality, very bright and super clear.

Rafter-S, Please tell me you carry the gun muzzle up!! It's just a pet peeve of mine. Yes I have seen the WallyWorld prices on the ADL Synthetics. Here they are 379 and the gun shops sell them for 415. I would pay the extra to get mine at the gun shop because I hate to see what the big giant has done to the little small town America. Another reason I like the ADL synthetic is I talked to a Remington engineer and ha had a 22-250 synthetic ordered for himself(this was a couple years ago before the 250's hit the shelves) and he blatantly told me the reason he wanted it was because it was the most accurate production rifle they were building then!! groundhog-- I'm not going to tell you how I carry it--I don't want you peeved at me (but if there was an accidental discharge, I would have one dead transmission).
I appreciate the "inside info" from the Remington engineer. It's always good to talk to the guys in-the-know.0 -
If you are driving around with a live round in the chamber, you deserve a dead tranny!! Other than that, I agree with your carry method. 0 -
Remington Sendero, Burris scope 3-9 for deer, 4-12 for chucks. Go with 4-12 for everything. 0
