How many M1 Garand Manufacturers are there?
After reviewing numerous sources on Garands, I am stumped on the manufacturer of a M1 listing itself as C.A.I., St. Albans Vt. Please to let me know of any info on this gun or manufacturer. Thanks.

The receivers were made for Century Arms International and they were assembled (not very well) with used parts from USGI rifles. The quality of the finished product varies wildly, usually on the bad side. There were four manufacturers of USGI rifles. Winchester (WWII only), Harrington and Richardson (post WWII), International Harvester (post WWII), and Springfield Armory (entire production period).

Both EOD and Andy are correct. For a brief history of the M-1 go to http://www.geocities.com/bigmike_75/aessays/a98.html .

another good source of m-1 info is the civilian marksmanship programs web site at www.odcmp.com .they have historic info, contact info, links, and they sell all sorts of stuff from 1903a3's to m-1s, to parts and ammo.

If you don't necesarily want a collecters gun, but want a really nice match garand, Springfield Armory makes really nice ones. If you don't want to spend that much, check out IAI's.
