I am on the verge of buying an antique gun from California. I am told by the owner that it will need to be shipped to an FFL since California is different and tough than the national law. I knew there were some state regs that were stricter, but does nayone know if this applies to antiques (pre-1898)?

quickslvr982 - There are many handguns that cannot be sold in California by a dealer since the law was passed that requires handguns to be tested by the manufacturer for safety. This test is expensive and must be run for each variation of each model. Many perfectly safe, perfectly functional and desirable handguns can no longer be sold by a dealer. However, they can still be possessed by individuals and they can still be transferred between private parties through a licensed dealer.

    WOOF.

BEING A FORMER MARINE, STATIONED AT CAMP PENDLETON CA., HOW DOES THE CALIF. PISTOL LAWS EFFECT MILITARY PEOPLE, WHO TRANSFER SAY FROM TEXAS TO CALIF. AND BRING IN A EVIL PISTOL.

THE LAWS HAVE CHANGED FOR SURE SINCE THE MID 60'S & 70'S, BUT I REMEMBER THAT I COULD BY A PISTOL WITH MY MILITARY ID, & MY TEXAS ID, WHILE STAIONED IN CALIF.

ALSO BACK THEN WE COULD STORE OUR PERSONAL WEAPONS IN THE ARMOURY.

CAN YOU STILL DO THAT, AND WOULD THAT EXEMPT YOU FROM CALIF. WIERDNESS
LAWS, BY BEING ON A MILITARY BASE?

    THANKS
