Browning O/U - Old or New?

I have a 1961 Browning superposed 20ga with imp & mod fixed chokes. I have a possible offer to trade on a new O/U with chokes & maybe some cash to boot. Would you stick with the classic, or upgrade to the new model? I use it for dove & quail and the occasional hand thrown clay pigeon.

    rballi, what is the make of the new O/U? It would have to really be something before I would get rid of the Browning.

    Without the NRA, the second ammendment would already be gone!

    I'm partial to the Browning, the Beretta seems too skinny for me.

    Your Superposed could be worth $1000-$2000+ depending on condition....if it has a round knob stock and long tang add maybe another 20%......Belgium made Brownings are worth much more in terms of collectibilty than the newer Japanese made units....of course if your looking for a different gauge or screw in chokes, that may be the way to go....

    Keep the one you have. It will be more valuable in the years to come, and there is always a demand for Belgium Brownings, especially the smaller gauges.

    So far, I think the offer is a new Beretta 686 Onyx with screw in chokes for my superposed. What do you think? As stated earlier, my gun is in about %80 cosmetically.

    Take the excellent advice of 25-06. Most people would do anything to own your Browning 20ga. Keep it and enjoy it. Shotguns like that are family heirlooms. The kids you will eventually pass it on to will appreciate it. Just my 2 cents.

    Tough decision! If the Superposed was in 90%+ condition there is no question I'd hang on to it. Considering the 80% condition, if the Beretta fits they are a nice gun and I'd consider the trade. For me, I like the Citories as they fit me and feel much like the Superposed. Another small consideration is the superposed is really not suitable for steel shot should you ever need it even with the Imp/mod choke combination. I have friends who shoot steel in their superposed Brownings, but I wouldn't. In general, the smaller superposed do appreciate very well but at 80% condition not quite as strong. Most superposed collectors are condition freaks.
    All in all, I guess if it were me I'd hang on to the superposed. I can't picture myself gettin rid of one.

    If the superposed fits best, I would keep it. While it has some collector value, in 80% condition it will not be sought by the most fanatic collectors, this will not bring a true premium price. You can always save your pennies and buy another shotgun with changable chokes or in another guage. The Superposed would be harder to replace and as a fine field gun could become a family treasure.
