    Hmmm...

Mine is a Mossberg 500, pump action.

Nice to have, but I like having my Glock on hand too. If I can hit 5 inch groups at 15 yards, I can hit a perp at 5 feet anywhere I want.

Interesting that you should say that. I have read various experts and some say shotgun, some say carbine, some say pistol. All have their reasons. I would tend to put more weight on the opinion of people who have either been through it themselves or who have interviewed others who have.

Several weeks ago, my dog woke me up in the middle of the night growling and I heard something going on downstairs near the door. At that moment, hardly even thinking about it, I grabbed my pump shotgun. It turned out that it was only the wind blowing a couple of dead branches out of a tree, but I learned something interesting. For just target and "fun" shooting I would rather shoot a pistol or rifle as a matter of personal preference. But when something went bump in the night, I reached for my shotgun.

5" GROUP AT 15 YDS is (sorry about swithching to lower case) a good group for people, but one must consider ADRENALINE and a quickly moving target. That group is now realisticaly a 24"(give or take) group, which does offer the possibility of a miss. If you practice in tactical, CQD pistol situations, then I say go for the pistol if you choose. But for the average person who has no access to a police CQD range with moving targets, the obvious choice is a 12GA. I have both also, but for a no doubt about it weapon, I will take the benelli with 00 buck followed by high brass 7 1/2, then another 00 buck followed by another high brass 7 1/2.

as far as the slide racking goes. I don't want to make a sound. I want him wearing the glow of the fiber optic sights, right in the middle of the long hallway. "NO PLACE TO GO, A$$HOLE. AND YOUR NOT GOING TO COST THE TAXPAYERS 30K A YEAR EITHER". BOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMM.

    When in doubt...empty the magazine!!

I agree with the pump shotgun for several reasons. 1. The 12 ga. has more stopping power than any handgun 2. The shotgun can be loaded to prevent shoot throughs thus limiting danger to unintended targets. 3. The sound of a pump will frequently remove the need to shoot somebody. I would rather the bad guy leave than have to replace the carpets!

I load the following (1) 7 1/2 followed by (2) 000 buck followed by (2) slugs. The 7&1/2 will put down almost anyone at household ranges - at 7 yards the pattern is only about 2 or 3 inches! The 000 will penetrate walls and furniture and used if there is still a threat after the first round. The slugs will penetrate refrigerators and washing machines (and almost anything else in a house) and used if either load above fails or the threat is an elephant. LOL

Interesting how everyone has a Glock in 40S&W by their side!

Is that because us Glock owners are more paranoid or we just know the best?

Target shooting has nothing much to do with self defense at home. Think of the situation:

    1. 3:30 AM
    2. Been asleep for 4 hours after watching the game with the guys and
    having a few
    3. It's dark
    4. Did you really hear something or was it another of those nasty
    dreams

Sure I could grab my Carbon 15 and empty 30 rounds (probably taking out 3 or 4 of the neighbor's cows)

    My plan:

    1. The 130# Bullmastif is pissed because some jerk just woke him up
    2. That gives me 10 sec. or so to wake up and figure where I am
    3. Mossberg 590 12 Ga special purpose for me
    4. Mossberg 500 20 Ga persuader for my wife
    5. If that doesn't work, well life is a ... well you guys know the
    rest.

cbxjeffIt's too late for me, save yourself.

My weapon of choice is a High Standard riot 12 ga. with extended magazine and mini-mag light with pressure switch end cap. I got this in 1992 from an ex cop freind of mine who actually used it while he was active.........for $50. BTW he also sold me a High standard 22 Mag derringer for.....gasp...$15. The two best gun buys I've ever made.
