With that powder, i'll go for the V-Max.

It has become my purpose in life to comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable. will270win@aol.com ~Secret Select Society Of Suave Stylish Smoking Jackets~

I'd recommend the Sierra 52 gr HPBT; it's awesome in a .223 Contender.

There seem to be two choices: collect a lot of stars.........or have a life!

Well it's 8:25 and back from the bench. It doesn't take me 4 hours to get to the bench since it's only 200 yards from the front door! But I had to shoot some others too and then had to go and try to roost a turkey and in between that had to plant 2 more bushes for the other half.(SHe has learned not to interfere with my R&D at the bench!!) So here's the verdict for this particular load. Gap, I would have voted with you before the shooting. But after the bench session I'll save the Fowlers for the BRgun(groundhogs count as BR shooting to me) The little 222Mag can ring them out to .200 all day long but the xp in 223 couldn't do it! Will270, The v-max's are "devastating when they get there" but this load didn't fair the best. It did however beat the Fowlers!! That really surprised me. Old Single Shot, You win the prize!! I geuss the prize should be a guided groundhog hunt if you ever get down here. The Hornady 52 Match bullets won the grouping contest. They shot 3/4 inch for both trials. I can't hold that little pistol better than that! However the best group of the session not counting the 222Mag, was shot with the daughters(13 yrs old) xp in 7BR with a holosight!! It was .701!! I'll never get over the accuracy of them xp's topped with them darn sights with no magnification! Thanks for all the replys and we'll do it again tomorrow with VARGET! GHD

Not surprised with the Hornady 52's They seem to shoot well in every 22 cal. i've ever tried.I wish i could take you up on that offer.I just developed a load for a new 22-250,and i am itching to try it on chucks. P.S. Since i am unable to make it for the guided hunt,i would be willing to settle for a new 223 bolt action.I think one of those new Kimber varmints would be nice.

O.S.S. my guns have always shot the Hornadys pretty well too but I was surprised that they didn't shoot like them Fowler Benchrest 52's. Those are the most accurate bullets I've ever shot in my 222Mag or any other 22 I've tried them in before the 223 today! Probably need to change the powder for the xp. The short barrel might like a little different burn rate. I'll try Varget next and if that doesn't work I'll go back to the old standby 3031. If a gun won't shoot 3031 it won't shoot!! As far as the hunt goes I don't think my services would be equal to a Kimber but I'm surprised you didn't ask for a Cooper!! GHD

OSS. I used to shoot 31.0gr of 3031 and Rem8.5/120 primer and 52 gr SierraHPBT Match. This load wasn't fast but was accurate. My favorite all time load for the 250 was 40.0gr of Win760and a CCI BR-2 primer behind any of the quality 52 gr. Match bullets. I killed a lot of groundhogs using this load and Speer Gold Match bullets but they don,t make them anymore so I'd go withe the Sierras or the Hornadys and give them a try. GHD

Red Dog, I'll be by your way twice tomorrow!! On the way to Harrisonburg and then back to Lewisburg and then to Bluefield and then if it's still daylight I'M GONNA KILL SOMETHING! Probabably at a friends place in Pulaski. Shot the 223 xp this evening and it likes Varget powder!! 40grBT shot .319@100yds. 52 HornMatch shot .458 @100 yds. I can live with that!! Looking forward to meeting you and shooting a chuck or two!! My e-mail is: charliemill@earthlink.net PS. My 17 is due in first of the week!!!
