Is Taurus Millenium pt145 a POS?
Might be using it as a carry gun. I was told it was garbage. Is this true and why? I wanted a G30 but can't afford $525 for it. Local pawn shop has one for $289.

Gun Tests Magazine liked it. Considered it well built and more accurate than the Colt Defender and Springfield Ultra Compact. I think the main draw-back is the internal striker spring sometimes not indenting the primer deeply enough. On a slow, deliberate, aimed trigger pull the reaction of the firing pin can be sluggish, but this is common with most guns of this type. This, coupled with hard primers can cause misfires. In their test they had one misfire with Win. ammo loaded with Win. anodized gold primers ( a Win. brand name) but handloaders have reported problems with quality control with these primers. MSRP is $490 so subtract 20% for retail NIB $289 is about right. If slightly used offer less according to condition. If well used you might replace the firing pin spring.

I find that CCI primers are pretty hard, along with most military primers. I'd aviod using any of the cheap russian imported stuff for defense, or CCI blazer. Try Federal or Remington premium ammo's.

My best friend had one, in his estimation it was a P.O.S. He sent it back into Taurus twice and it still wasn't right. He finally traded it in after much frustration. I will be glad to give you his email address if you wish to get his opinion on the handgun. Ive shot with him several times and it Jammed several times I would not want to rely on it! Just my two cents Booger 0 -
As far as I understand the millenium is a very lightweigt gun with a polymer lower, he could have been limp wristing it. Also what type of ammo what he shooting thru it? Was it broken in properly? Did it need a fluff and buff job? What type of jams occured? Were his magazines feed lips shaped right? Were the magazines seating properly in the gun? Did that particular gun have a bad extractor or the extractor need tuned? Was the ammo he was shooting thick rimmed?
There are many questions to ask involving malfunctions of a firearm, but the onlyway to really tell if a gun is quality or not is to examine it first hand, and another good thing is to have it disassemble in front of you, looking closely at the internals quality.

Good point Lee, that was the first thing that came to my mind too.
Still, if you are trying to get a gun cheap, I've got a lot of experience in that (fortunate for the skill, unfortunate in needing it in the first place )
It looks like you have your heart set on a 45 for concealed carry. When it comes to 45cals for concealed carry, the best thing to do is save and cough up the money in a few months.
The first thing I'd reccomend it the Glock 36. It's the smallest of the glocks, and it's pretty darn accurate too. It has a nice smooth recoil and not the jerky kind. You lose 4 rounds but the accuracy makes up for it.
The next thing I'd reccomend is be patient and hunt around. The pawn shops tend to offer pretty lousy deals in my exp. The trick is get to the guy who wants to sell his gun BEFORE he goes to the pawnshop... meaning check out the local classifieds and GB Auctions.
Email me and I'd be glad to point you in the right direction.

Didn't mean to step on anybody s toe with my reply, Just thought you might like to confer with my buddy on his opinion of taurus and the pistol. Perhaps Im a little to particular when I buy a car I expect it to be right , I do not want to have to run a certain type of gas, I expect the doors to open I do not want to polish the hinges, I expect the braskes to stop the car with out chatter or with out turning the rotors, I expect it to be aligned up and drive straight, I expect the windows to go up and down with out adjustment. I expect it to run on all the cylinders, I expect it to be right when I buy it, if it is not It goes back till it is. I expect the same thing from a firearm if you pay good money it should be right, when You buy it, if not then they should make it right, before returning it to you.

I do not own a PT145, but as soon as Taurus puts the titanium slide on the PT145, I will. I have looked at the guns and they look well-made to me. However, I am aware of the reputation that Taurus has, most of which was justly earned with older guns. (I have a M94 with a crooked front sight. Had Smith been making 8-shot Kit Guns at the time, I never would have bought it, but it works fine despite the front sight.)
I would not be afraid to try a new Taurus PT145. I would not be adverse to doing a "fluff and buff" on it to make it run, because there is no other gun that can compete with it for caliber, size and magazine capacity, etc..
