Antique S&W .44 double action 1st model

I recently picked up this top break which has a 3 1/2" barrel with a 1 9/16 cylinder, and does not have any patent dates. serial # shows gun was built around 1905 and all 4 serial nrs. match- barrel, barrel latch, cylinder and butt. Recent publications state that only 2 were made with an 8" barrel and I'm wondering if anyone knows the rarity or production number of the 3 1/2 barrel. Also there is a wide range of pricing on these guns and I would like to find out about the value of this particular piece.
