.400 COR-BON
How does this round compare to the .45 acp, is it that much better? What are the ballistics, and is ammo easily found? Thans in advance...

45ACP 230 FMJ 850FPS, 400 Cor Bon 185gr 1380FPS. Ammo is available, but still expensive, about 80 cents a rd. Recoil is comparable to a 44 mag and if you are thinking of converting a 1911 ( as I did ) you will not want to subject the pistol to the battering. I fire it only occaisionally.

Ive got a Kimber classic royal with a fitted .400 corbon barrel by briley, ive run a bit over 5000 rounds so far, not a single problem with either the ammo or the gun. frame is solid, nothing working loose, slide is fine and barrel is not even slightly worn. 0 -
Its kinda like the .357 sig of the .40caliber variety. I wouldn't bother getting one to "upgrade" your .45, because the .45 serves its purpose probably better than the .400corbon will, but just for fun shooting purposes go for it.
Ballistically you'd probably only get another 200fps out of it, but your shooting a smaller bore diameter. Factory 185gr ballistics 1140fps for the .45acp. I haven't found ballistics on a 185gr .400corbon, but the 165gr shows 1300fps much slower than the last guy proclaimed. But don't take my word for it.

CorBon lists their 400 Corbon 135 grain JHP ammo at 1350 FPS. I have loaded a few using once fired 45 ACP once fired WCC and TZZ cases. Just run the cases through a carbide 45ACP Die and then through a 400 Corbon sizing die. Write to Corbon and they will send you a list of loads for the 400 Corbon. The only trouble I have found in reloading is I cannot find any 135 or 155 Grain Jacketed bullets with a crimping cannelure and a regular crimp will not hold the bullets tight enough. The factory Corbon 135 Gr load does not have as much recoil as a Ball 45 ACP Military round. 0 -
I bought a .400 corbon for my Sig P220. I cant really feel much more recoil with the 135s than with the .45 230+P. But for the cost of the ammo, seems to me a waste of money. Check out the the .45 super. Much cheaper to convert a regular .45 than the .400. I use the same reloading set up as with my regular .45s. 0 -
I to was looking to super size my 220,I have both the 40 and 357sig barrels for my 229, and was wondering about the 220, where did you get the .400 cor-bon barrel for the 220, thanks... 0
