$100. is a good price for a Chinese SKS in good condition. You can use a high capacity magazine on any SKS but it is illegal unless you first cut off the bayonett lug. I know it's stupid, I don't make the rules.

Leave it original. Nearly everyone that trys to convert to high caps puts them back original. They load plenty fast with strippers. Anyway none of the tin cans I have shot got anywhere near me while I was reloading. It sounds like you got a real good deal.

If your SKS has a removeable AK Mag,just by releasing a latch, then yes it will accept hicap AK Mags. If you must remove the trigger assemble to remove your attach magazine, then NO, your SKS will not accept AK Mags. There are 30 round SKS mags, but you have to go through the process of removing the trigger assemble every time to swap out mags. Some folks get the hi-cap sks mags to work if they tinker enough with them, but most consider them junk. Iv'e been happy with the ten round fixed mag. You SKS with 10 round fix mag at gun shows sells for around $150 - $200.

Thanks guys,I really was not looking for a SKS, but the price sounded fair when I ran accross it looking for non gun items. Come to think of it, half my gun collection came that way. You know, the price sounds too good to pass up at that moment, decide to buy it because you feel the next guy will and that you'll hate yourself on the way home thinking of the deal you could've had. Then when you buy it and you start wondering if it was a deal to begin with because you did not research it good enough to know, which is the reason I am asking the experts now, hoping to hear that I did not get ripped off. You know the drill. At least so far, I've been lucky on those non-researched buys. I normally try to ask the experts or read other posts and magazine reports, etc. before I make a plunge. Only on smaller purchases like this SKS I might take the chance because the lost, if any, would be minimal. Thanks again for the responses. Also, don't know if it makes any differences, but the receiver is milled and was told the barrel is threaded. Again, I don't know much about these, so I am not sure if all are like that.GD

I agree with wundudnee.........leave it original. I cut the lug off one of mine and wish I never had. The 10 round fixed magazines that comes with the gun is reliable and loads very quickly (in case those tin cans should shoot back at you!! :-)

The SKS is lot of good quality military shooting machinery and
is very underpriced for what you get. Your deal was especially good, being both a private sale and good buy.
There's a lot of corrosive ammo out there so be sure to scrub out the barrel, gas port and cylinder as well as the bolt face.

Thanks for the re-assurances. Thanks for the offer AZGUNNUT2, but I think I'll plink with it for a bit and see how much fun I have. If not what I expect, I'll email you. I won't modify it or anything because I've read that trying to modify for a removable AK mag would not be a good idea (cost and legality). The fixed clip will do me fine for now. GD
