brisco,If it was sold to you in 1989 or 1990 with the bayo. attached, under Federal law it is legal. It is a pre-ban weapon and you may keep it in it's original state (you should keep your receipt to prove when you bought it). However, your STATE law may be different. I don't know where you live, but some of the more assinine liberal enclaves have banned weapons with certain features. Check with your local LEOs or attorney about the local and state laws that apply.

The ones that are currently in the shops are mostly Romanian and Yugoslavian. They are considered Curio & Relics (collector items), whereas many of the Norincos and Poly-Techs made in China were made more recently and specifically for export to the U.S. market. You should be O.K., pre-ban; but as per the above advice it would be wise to keep some documentation handy with the rifle if you still have it. I had an ATF Agent admit to me on the telephone that the situation has become so confusing that the average Agent is unable to determine which SKS rifles can and can not have the bayonet. But, again as previously posted, the individual State and local laws might be the larger threat; especially if they call for a blanket ban on SKS bayonets.
