Double shotguns
Why is it you can go out and buy a single shot, shot gun for next to nothing. But if you want a double. all of the sudden it's worth $900.I've looked at a few. over that price that had all the pretty engraving, etc. But it's still just a double barrel shotgun, right?unreal prices is all I've seenthanksScott

It all depends on perspective. If you look at a gun for its utility, then a double is no better than two singles. If you look deeper a double can be much more.Take a Stevens / Savage double... These are utility guns, but they still have a certain something that sets them apart. Now, change gears and swing a Field Grade L.C. Smith. After you're done tell me that you can't tell why a nice double can't be compared to a cheap single. 0 -
I understand there is a quality isue. But sheesh another $500-600 bux. That seems nuts. I was looking for a good double shotgun. Now I'm stuck with my single.out priced on those too.Just like the $700 pistols that are sold now. UnbelievableScott 0 -
I have been looking at shot guns too, thinking about an o/u or a sxs. In doing some reading, I have discovered that doubles are not nearly as easy to build. Since you want both barrels to shoot to the same point of aim (though not all do) you cannot just glue two barrels together and expect them to do that. The bores must be a bit off of perfectly centered to get them to shoot right. Ever look at the prices of drillings? Those double rifles cost a fortune. That said, you should be able to pick up a decent older double for a bit less than you quoted. It may depend in part upon where you live. In New Mexico, you really can't go to the shops as look at a lot of shotguns because there is not as much wing shooting as in some areas. 0 -
Is it really all that hard to line them up? It's 2002.they've been making double guns for how long?Scott 0 -
For a decent double, check out the Russian Baikal O/U or SXS shotguns. I picked up a SXS in .410 for $319. It's not a work of art like some of the more expensive ones out there but it's an inexpensive SXS that will bring me the utility for which I purchased it. 0
