A good friend shoots rifle comp. He loads his necked down 308's with VARGET. Said it has been working great.

Kid: I also shoot in comp. and also use VARGET. It works great. I also went to a Military Surplus powder ( WC 846 ) this is a ball powder, it can be used in 223 and 308. You would use Hodgon's BLC 2 powder loading data. I was paying $64.00 per 8Lb. Keg.

I use the Accurate powders exclusively. They are the cleanest burning that I have found( of the powders I have used. The Data powder 2230-C is also an Accurate powder.
The second admendment GUARANTEES the other nine and the Constitution!

I have been using the 2230-c for reloading my .223 and .308. I've been well pleased with it.

Thanks to all you guys that reccomend Varget, thats good to know, however its about $125 per 8lb keg ... I'm wanting to save some $$$ and get into something around $50-$60 per 8lb keg such as a surplus or less expensive powder!(notice I didn't say cheap!)Well, I do like what I'm hearing about the Accurate 2230-C, starting to sound like a good one to buy!Anyone else out there with a line on a good less expensive powder?

Kid, Try the mil surplus WC846. You should be able to get it for about $80 / 8#keg. (Buck007 also recommended this powder.)
