Re-blue
Can someone recommend a place to re-blue slides and frames? I have some older pieces that have 20% or so wear. I don't want to try to touch them up myself. I would rather disassemble and ship the parts for a pro to do.Thanks,

I don't know what types of guns you intend to reblue, but if they have any collectable values at all, rebluing will not add to, but instead detract from, their values. I have seen a lot of neat old colts and Lugers that were ruined from a collectable standpoint when someone along the line reblued them. This is just my opinion...it's worth about what you paid for it. 0 -
If a pistol has 20% wear, that must mean it is an 80% pistol. (Pretty good math, eh?) Depending on the collectability of the pistol in question, that much finish might still command good collector interest. If you have, for instance, an old Colt Government Model with 80% finish, it might be worth between $500 and $1500 or more, depending on what it is. If you were to reblue the slide at a cost of $100 or so, the pistol would become a mere shooter, worth $300 or so, unless someone ignorant of the refinish were to be smitten by the "pretty" new finish, or needed an original frame to go with an original slide, etc.. I cannot think of a time when a refinish adds value to any gun, but I suppose there must be some cases. I say leave it as is, but it is your gun. 0 -

Thanks for all the replies guys. I guess that some old guns are like some old cars in that they are worh more in original condition.
