Question for NY Dealers
With NYS ballistic casing law on all new handguns, how does this work on Thompson Contender's and the many barrels you can get for these handguns ? Do you need a casing for each barrel you buy ? [This message has been edited by MFI (edited 04-03-2002).]

I'm not a new york dealer, I don't know anything about new york, I live in texas, but my common sense and logic tells me that the only time that you would have a case databased on a contender is when it is first purchased. The barrels aren't individually registered and serial numbers collected by the ATF, only the reciever section. And the legislators that wrote that law are morons and know nothing about guns or they wouldn't have written it.

Unlike here in Texas, places like New York and The Republic of Kalifornia, people don't seem to call bull sh*t very much. Maybe their to busy watching the stock market or something. I don't know Kalifornia's excuse.Just some southern since of humor, hope I didn't offend anyone. God bless America.

A couple months ago I put a deposit on a new G-2 Contender. I've since been told a Contender can't be brought into NY. One manufactured before march of 2001 is still ok. But if it comes from TC it has to have the ballistics done on it and TC isn't willing to jump through the hoops to comply. Another dealer told me I could buy it and pay the NYS police to do the ballistic fingerprint. He didn't say how much it would cost, but did tell me to expect a long wait for it to return from them. He also stated the origional barrel would have to remain with the gun as long as it was in NY state. I could use other barrels but I could never sell or trade the origional separate from the frame. A third dealer told me I could buy just the frame and not worry about it. Personally I know of 2 for sale that are pre March 2001. I think I'm going to buy one of those and save the hassles.WOODS 0
