SUGGESTION! You need to call the police dept. and check to see if this is a stolen weapon. Normally you don't have to tell them your name. I've had some weapons stolen and called some years later just to check. In all cases the police confirmed they were listed at stolen, BUT made no attemp at asking where they were(but that's another story)! You can bet your bottom dollar that who ever you sell it to, if they find it's a stolen weapon & or they get caught with it, they'll point there finger at you! And your story "I FOUND IT" doesn't sound all that realistic ...even if it is. Just my 2 cents. Good Luck! ...Mark

Mark,Thanks for the advice. I'm taking it to a gun dealer tonight to have him run the # for me. He said that if it comes back stolen, it would have to be surrendered immediately, which is fine with me. I figure that I'm willingly going to get it checked out, and I sure as heck wouldn't do that if I knew it was stolen!!!Thanks,Jay

Personally, I'd do it with the Police dept on a pay phone. When it comes to stolen property, I would not deal with ANYONE but the police. Also, a couple questions... What does it say on the reciever? Made in Romania, Bulgaria Etc? Does it say AK-47 on it or SAR-1? Does the end of the barrel have screw threads on it? Bayonet? Please, describe. You may have a pre-ban. If it is unregistered, even if it is not stolen you'll still get it confiscated.

niklasal,I didn't check it out that closely. If I had to guess, I say that it's in the factory box, and was never taken out. The orginal factory packing material is in there, and based on the the part of the postmark i can read, I think it came from Ohio. I mean, it looks BRAND NEW. I realize that it may be refurbished, though.

What about turning it in at one of those gun buy backs? No questions asked and you'll get a couple bucks for the gun.Advantages? Pitfalls? What do you guys think?
