Which varmint round?
I do a lot of groundhog hunting and make a few 200 + yard shots. I'm getting tired of the ol' 22 mag. Any suggestions on the best round to upgrade to?

ditto on the 250. I would say 220 swift, but it seems to erode more quickly in the throat area. Being that a varmint gun will be shot much more than a deer gun, and practice sessions can last so much longer due to ammo cost and reduced recoil, I would go 22-250 and save the barrel erosion. Besides, the bullets are more readily available. 0 -

22-250 is the ultimate in varmint calibers!! And this is coming from someone who doesn't own one at this time!! Someone mentioned the 25-06 as being the varmint gun from hell, He stole that moniker from me!! If I had to choose one caliber tonight to shoot from now on it would come down to these two. 25-06 would win out if I ever thought I'd shoot it at something oter than groundhogs. If groundhogs only...22-250!! Groundhog Devastation!!!! 0 -
Also something else I forgot to mention, I killed my first groundhog today with a .223!! It was an xp-100 with a 14.5 inch barrel and a 3x9 Burris. I saw the impact of the bullet!! My truck, your truck and a few of my close freinds trucks won't haul the groundhogs that have fallen to my 22-250 or my 25-06! But this one was special because it was the first one that the gun had ever pointed at!!! And for all of my buddies here on GB, it was 219yds and it wasn't with a Holosight!!! I bet the target aquisition would have been a whole lot quicker with the Holosight!! End result, JUST AS DEAD!!! GHD 0 -
The 22-250 would be my choice.
lets all be responsible! shoot a criminal!0
