Winchester 1890 slide action 22 short
I have an old winchester slide action gallery type rifle in 22 short. Does anyone know if these were ever made with a nickel receiver from the factory? Thanks!

Winchester offered it's 1890 with a wide choice of finishes from blue through nickel, silver and even gold washed. The nickel guns came in two configurations, half nickel where only the reciever and buttplate were nickeled and full nickel, which also included the barrel and the magazine tube. There is a good chance your gun is a true gallery gun being's it's 22 short and half nickel. The nickel recievers were popular with gallery opreators as it was very durable.Gallery guns often have a triangular loading port instead of one shaped like a 22 shell. This facilitated quicker loading. Also often times the serial #'s are mismatched on gallery guns because when you clean a whole table of guns, putting them back together mismatched was common.Depending on condition it's a pretty collectible gun.
