Dragunov Rifle, need help
A friend who does not post says he is kicking himself for not purchasing a "Dragonov" at a recent gun show, the price was $450.00 (no scope). I know NOTHING about this rifle (and my guess is he doesn't know much more) but in doing a search, everything I find seems in the $800, $2000 or $3000 price range. The rifle at the show had a wooden stock and having not seen it I have little more to go on; reportedly in "excellent" condition. My friend is trying to track this dealer down or hopes he has the gun at the next show. My brain tells me there is a reason it is priced where it is. Can any of you folks shed some light on this? Thanks, Ed

My guess is at that price it was probably nothing more than a generic AK with a dragunov style stock. The Romanian rifle that closely resembles a Dragunov type of rifle tend to run in the high $800s, low $900s. I very much doubt the dealer had even this low-end type of rifle miss-priced to that degree. 0 -
There is an "AK-47" (shoots the 7.62x39 round) with a heavy long barrel and front bipod and usually a muzzle brake, which I've heard people refer to (wrongly) as "a Dragunov". I would expect most dealers would refer to it as an "AKM" (I"m sure the "M" has some meaning in Russian).Perhaps this is what your friend is looking at? Some of these will sell in the $450 range. The pricing for the "Dragunov's" has already been noted; these do not shoot the 7.62x39 round, they fire the 7.62x54R (the "R" is for "Russian" if I'm not mistaken). And are you sure this was a complete firearm? And not just a "parts kit" on a cut or dummy receiver? 0 -
And does anyone know what the proper spelling of "Dragunov" is?? 0 -
To be proper it's '7.62x54R Russian' the R is for 'rimmed' or as the British would say 'flanged' 0 -
The M as in AKM is for millimeter which is the thickness of stamped AK receivers. 0 -
Ed, These guys are defenitely right regarding the validity of that $450 "dragunov" your friend saw, besides they are never sold without the scope. I dont think you can even buy an authentic russian at less than $2000 nowadays...even the chinese copies are in the $1800+ range. It is most probably an overpriced romanian AK, the same ones most of us see in gun shows. If you are in the market for a stock ala dragunov, from a romanian ak (takeoff) let me know, I still have one with the lower handguard in my storage somewhere. Also, be aware that a dragunov has an entirely different gas system than a common AK.-smooth

That weapon is proboably a Romanian PSL. I have handled one at the gun store where my son works. Looks like a Dragunov and is chambered in 7.62x54R and has the PSO-1 scope. Rifle is new and has a price tag of $800. 0 -
Have your friend check out the auction under Item 3484221 and see if that is what he saw. The scope usually sells for $150, that would put the rifle in the $700 range. It is also called a Romak-3, I bought one to play with, not a bad shooter but you need decent ammo, the $40 for 440 rounds 7.62x54R stuff will cause some jams (there is a gummy substance on the casings). I have to WD-40 them before loading the mags. 0 -
