S&W Models 581and 28-2 ???
I have 2 Smith and Wessons that have been in the family for a little while and am unsure as to their value. One is a 357 Magnum Model 581 (nickel plated or polished steel) and a blued Model 28-2 44 Magnum. Does anyone know their value, or is there a website I can go to and find out by entering the serial numbers? Thanks!

You can stop in to your local dealer with the revolvers and he can look them up in the "Blue Book of Gun Values". That way you will get an idea of their value. If you call Smith & Wesson, they can tell you the year of manufacture. Are you sure about the model numbers? Smith never made a 44 Mag model 28. It was always the model 29. I am pretty certain that the model was 28-2. Don't know; I'll have to go back and check again. I'm pretty positive is said 28-2. Thanks for the advice though. R06 0 -
The 581 would run in the $170-180 in 90% according to the book. I have seen this type going for around $255-$245. Sometimes Like New versions have gone for $400-$500. On the 28-2, S&W NEVER made the 28 in a 44 Mag. It was never produced except in a 357 mag (there was a specific contract they produced a small number of with 38 special cylinders)The 44 Mag was the 29 model. They were both N frame guns.
The second admendment GUARANTEES the other nine and the Constitution![This message has been edited by S&W Man (edited 03-26-2002).]0
