I am looking for a model 170 in 35 remington. Can't find one on the auctions or want ads. Am I wasting my time or are there some out there? As always thanks for your replies. 0 -
I have seen the Savage 170 pump in action. A guy up at our hunting camp has one in 30-30. It is comparable to a Browning BPR because the slide has such a short pull unlike the Remington 76,760,7600 and so on. Hope this helps. 0 -
Salzo, they were made in two cals.30/30 & .35 Rem. the latter being the rarest .The 30/30 was made in rifle & carbine the .35 in just the rifle.I have all three. See if you can find a copy of Jim Carmichel's Book of the Rifle. On page 66 see what Jim Carmichel says about this super accurate little rifle. 0 -
Hi, I have both the rifle and carbine in 30/30. Stay away from these guns unless you want just a range gun. They are not reliable. The actions don't function properly. I only keep mine because my dad bought one as my first deer rifle and the second one my uncle gave me. However they are fairly accurate. 0 -
Like I said read the book !

Salso- I bought one of these in 30-30 for my sons 1st deer rifle. It had a bad habit of dropping the 2nd round out the bottom instead of chambering it. Had a smith work on it (cost very little at the time) & now the rifle is going through grandkids. 0 -
I had one of the 35's about 12 years ago. It was setting on the table at a show and a guy stopped looked at it and said in a confused drawl "Well I aint never seen a 410 slug gun before" About laughed in his face but didn't explained it to him and he bought it. Still see him at the shows and he still has it. 0 -
Salzo,if you are intrested in the article from J Carmichel's book e-mail me your address (e-mail) and I'll try to send a scan of it.eagleguns@cyberwc.net

i have worked on many of these, if treated gently they usualy work ok. not a 'quality' rifle. 0
