AR 180 Mags Conversion
I have some AR Orlite Mags I would like to convert to be used in an AR 180. Does anyone know who does this and what the cost might be? Thanks for any and all assistance.

The process is so simple that you should be able to do it yourself. For metal magazines, all you have to do is grind off (the usual method) or hammer down (using a dolly inside to keep from collapsing the magazine body) the raised areas above the AR-15 magazine latch hole, and then cut a new latch slot on the other side in the approprate place for the AR-180. If you have a factory AR-180 magazine, it is easy to use it as a pattern for locating the slot. I use a rotary tool with a cutoff wheel to cut slots in metal magazines. However, with plastic magazines, the cutoff wheel might tend to gum up, but the wheel would probably still cut (or burn) the slot with some extra cussing. For cutting plastic, a rotary saw blade (sold by Dremel and available at most Wal-Marts and home stores) might work better. With plastic, you could even use a hot knife blade or thin soldering iron tip to melt through and make the slot. Be sure to remove any flashing burrs from inside the magazine and you are done. If done carefully, the modified magazines will still work in the AR-15, even with the "hump" gone. They just will not be as secure.Hope this helps. 0 -
JudgeColt, Thank you for the information. If I can not find a professional to do this work I will try your formula. 0
