I RECENTLY PICKED UP A ENFIELD 303 IN TRADE .THE GUN STOCK HAS BEEN CUT DOWN AT THE BARREL END .I GUESS THEY WERE TRYING TOO SPORTERIZE IT ,MY QUESTION IS THIS HOW CAN I TELL WHAT MODEL THIS IS ?WHERE CAN I GET A SCOPE MOUNT FOR IT ? THANKS DONKEEP ON BANGIN

    hi guys
    i have a 1943 no.4 mk1 303 and i am trying to figure out where it was made.according to the Standard Catalog of Millitary Firearms 4th edition. this riffle was not built by enfield, but instead built by longbranch or savage stevens. but i am having trouble figuring out witch one made it. on the left side of the receiver on the grip it reads m1943. under that it is marked AS and then under that the serial number. if anyone know for sure i would live to solve the puzzle.
    its not a no.4 mk1* or(T)

    Lacking a more thorough description of what you've got, the following should cover about 90% of the possibilities. If it has a peep sight mounted at the rear of the receiver it is most likely a No.4 Mk.1 of World War II or near vintage, and you should be able to find that information on the left side of the receiver. It may be hard to see at first as the rifles were finished with paint and the letters are often filled in. If it has a sight mounted on the barrel forward of the receiver it is likely a No.1 Mk. III* of World War I or near vintage, and that information should be found on the stock socket just below the bolt handle. If it says No.1 Mk.3 (not the Roman Numeral III) it was made in India. Look it over and get back to us and we'll be happy to tell you more.

    ok ,it has, ma uthgov roman number 3 1941 on the band just behind the reciever.thanks for your help guys donkeep on bangin

    Your rifle was manufactured in 1941 at the Lithgow Arsenal in Australia. It is a No.1 Mk III*.
