Win 62A 22 S/L/LR rusted, shot out, .... what to do?
I've got an old Winchester Model 62A in .22 S/L/LR and the barrel is pretty much shot out of it and it's got some pretty good rust on the exterier. Is there anything I can do with it? Find a new barrel? Leave it as is (but after some cleaning)?

We can reline the bbl. and matte blue the outside and make itlook pretty good, and it'll be protected from future rust episodes. This will not maintain the collecor value of this piece, but if its just a shooter.... contact me..snake803@juno.com 0 -
Keep it, get it relined and reblued cheaper and better than a new Taurus or Rossi and it will serve you well for another lifetime.

Same here.Reline, reblue, keep to shoot forever.I have worked on several of these and the guys are not collectors. They want a good solid shootable rifle. 0 -
Any suggestions on a good place to get this relined? I live in the Minneapolis/St. Paul (MN) area and would go locally if it's a reputable person/place. I would also consider shipping it out too if it's feasible. Thanks in advance.

WOW... this is the first time I have seen someone post a follow-up post FIVE years after-the-fact[:0][:0][:0].
In answer to your question, the best person I know of for relining a .22 caliber Winchester is Randy Redman (located in Omak, WA).0 -
You might also try Ahlman's of Morristown here in the people's Republik if Minn., also www.ahlmans.com . They do list relining
of .22 barrels, whether or not they are competetive on quality/cost I am unsure. They have been there a long time but with younger gunsmith's, ect,???? I have had pretty good luck with the oil/ 0000 steel wool on the outside. I have used a reblue with good results, tho by no means will it be a rust blue/new look. I'd also try a good scrubbing of the bore with brass brush and cleaning jag plus a good bore cleaner before you rebarrel, not a 5 minute try, either. I've been amazed by how much can be removed from an other wise clean looking barrel and how much improvement on a really crappy looking barrel with some elbow grease.0 -

Talk about procrastination, huh? [:D] I had put the .22 back in the closet and forgot about it. Started moving things around to sell the house and pulled it back out of the closet. Figured I should spend a few $$ and get it working again since my Dad gave it to me. Looks like I will check into Ahlman's and also they guy you listed. Thanks.

Would make a great GIVE AWAY [:o)] 0 -
If you are interested in a replacement barrel I see that Numrick arms list one for the 62A for a little less that $75.00. Should be less cost this way and you would still have the original barrel.[:)] 0
