Old scope...?
I have a Winchester Mod. 70 (pre 64) in 300 H&H Mag. The scope is just as old and is- a fixed 4x28. It flips on a hinge and I don't like that because it isn't needed. It is old though- and if it isn't worth anything I'd like to replace it. Would the value of the gun change for better or worse with a good 3-9x40? Or should I keep it original? Don't want to screw up the value is my #1 concern. Thanks!

go ahead and put a good scope on it, the one you have doesn't add any value. if you do sell the rifle in the future, sell the scope and rifle separate, you'll get more $$ 0 -
Hmmm, well you don't mention what he scope actually is. Many have modest collector value, but some are a little less modest. Since the rifle was sold alone and the scope added after purchase (in most cases, though there were a few that came as a package as Wally world and K-mart do now) it will not hurt the rilfes value to remove it. Besides, it can always be put back. As long as you do not alter the rifle but boring and tapping for different mounts, refinish, or re-blue etc. you should not damage the value. 0
