Can Bayonet Lugs still be manufactured on shotguns? I am interested in a Mossberg 590 but typically shop in the pre-ban market. How is this gun considered. Any help is much appreciated.

There are several semi-automatic shotguns with detachable magazines. The Saiga and Brolin SAS12 come to mind. I think semi-automatic shotguns with detachable magazines are regulated the same as "assault rifles," but they are restircted to 5-round magazines instead of 10-round as I recall. However, as reported, no such restrictions are attached to pump shotguns. If you buy a Mossberg, you can put on the new Knoxx Industries Sidewinder 10-round drum kit. Neat, but a little awkward in its forward placement. Knoxx is working on its own shotgun that will use the same magazine in the conventional location. It will also have the kit for the Remington M870. Check them out at wwww.knoxx.com.

I don't know of any restrictions on a pump, but the '94 ban definition of assault shotgun is:(D) a semiautomatic shotgun that has at least 2 of - (i) a folding or telescoping stock; (ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon; (iii) a fixed magazine capacity in excess of 5 rounds; and (iv) an ability to accept a detachable magazine. The Spas 12 is an example of a banned assault shotgun.[This message has been edited by boeboe (edited 03-17-2002).]
