Re: peep sights
I'm thinking of installing a peep sight on a Savage Model 24f OU 223/12 for coyote hunting. I have no experience with them any thoughts would be appreciated.

Peep sights are excellent. They look like this: 0 -
Go ahead & mount 'em!Give 'em a fair chance when you're out testing your new rig though - the "peep" sight has a great history (ever shoot a Garand?), including being used in Olympic competitions, but take a bit of getting used to.They don't get cloudy in fog or the cold, either (like 'scope sights)& they make your shooting rig easier to carry around thru brush. Low-light situations can be troublesome because the aperture acts like the iris in a camera lens - the smaller the hole, the less light gets thru but the sharper the target appears.Good luck! 0 -
See if you can get a sight with a removable aperture (Lyman, Williams). With the aperture removed, thesight becomes a "ghost ring" and is great for quick target acquisition and low-light conditions. Also, some sights come only as ghost rings, which would work fine if you didn't need the small aperture for deliberate sighting. 0 -
By all means, install one. As I believe itwas Gen. Hatcher, who said:: "The M-1 Garandis the first Military rifle that has sightsyou look through, not look FOR". That whatsights are all about. 0
