Another AK question

It seems there have been a ton of posts recently regarding the price of Romanian SAR-1 AK-47's. I purchased a paratrooper model in August of 2001.Now to my questions. Do the paratrooper models generally have a higher price tag? Is there any difference other than the stock? I have very little experience with AK's. In fact, I still haven't even fired it yet. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The paratrooper model, if I understand what I have is a paratrooper, has the cutout buttstock. It's kind of like a thumbhole-type stock, but is more or less just open and kind of blocky in it's manufacturing aspect. It looks sort of like the one in this auction, except the stock and forearm are wood. http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=3375321 [This message has been edited by DaRoosta (edited 03-17-2002).]

ummm, i think what you have is NOT a paratrooper. First of all i have never heard of a Romanian paratrooper, Second Paratroopers tend to have folding stocks and cost much much more then the standard romanian that everyone is buying up, I think what you have is a WASR-10 AK-47 variant like in the picture at the link below http://www.gunbroker.com/auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=3403811 i could be wrong, and if i am please let me know

Thanks for the reply. That is exactly what I have. As I mentioned earlier, I don't have much experience with AK's and was going solely by a what a friend told me and didn't have any basis for disagreeing with him until now. I'm glad it's cleared up.So, is this good or bad that this is the model that I have? Did I pay too much at $300 back in August? It only came with one 10-round mag and the standard sling.

With only one mag it might have been a little high but generally you can find them for like 270-350, I think the standard ak's are more desirable but as long as you got what you wanted, thats all the matters right?Just for a comparison, I got my standard Romanian AK for $340 + transfer and s/h, which included 1 10 round mag and 6 30 round mags.It also had the standard sling and cleaning kid...[This message has been edited by Kadaver (edited 03-17-2002).]

Advice? WEAR HEARING PROTECTION. Those suckers are LOUD. I stood 20 yards away with fingers in ears when my friend was shooting his and it was still a lot. Also, it heats up quick, so even when empty keep your fingers away from any part of the barrel.Oops! Almost forget...ENJOY! those things are a blast to shoot. You'll never regret having bought one. Any doubt you had about overpaying will immediately vanish
