Which is the more available to purchase in your area ?Last fall up here, I was asking about 7-08 and all the guy could say was "that must be a new for 2002 ammo, cause I've never heard of it"I'd hate to see how long it will take for him to get 260 ammo (He has'nt gotten any 7-08 in yet either) 0 -
Coon,I have shot three deer with my 7mm-08. One far, two fairly close. All one shot kills even with one up close real poor hit. My friend bought one for his 9 year old last year, Nathan made nice 90 yard, one shot kill on small buck. That kid don't weigh 90 lbs with pockets full of rocks. Don't know about .260, but wouldn't discount it either.Gonna take my 11 year old out soon to shoot mine. I am downloading some loads to start with as he doesn't have much experience with centerfires yet.KC 0 -
Coonass, I think I replied to your first post and still hold fast to the 260. It is a very versitile little cartridge and has no drawbacks as far as I'm concerned. Ammo availability should be a fairly easy thing to solve, order a few boxes of Remington 140gr.factory loads from you local gunshop or start reloading!! 0 -
A salient point to consider when buying and 'exotic' caliber...260/ 7..08 is ammo availability in your area! Most off wall place will have the every day 30-30, '06, 270 and a few others. Try walking into a Coast to Coast and asking for 260 ammo..say what????As far as a rifle for a 10 year old...my sons(at 12) first rifle is a Marlin 44mag and the first year I took him hunting and he had his Deer permit...he did every bit as well as I did with my 338! In the Nebraska Sandhills a shot can be as close as 10 yards or as far as 1,000 yards...and getting a shot depends on hunting skill and marksman ship. Now I hunt with a Marlin stainlss "30-30" and I got a Buck in 2001 at 200 yards 1st shot in the Nebraska Sandhills where a shot can be....you've read it before...So don't get caught up in paper statistic's! 0 -

The Remington don't seem to shoot the 140 grain in 260 to well because of the barrel twist. A savage is a better shooting gun in this cal. with a 140 grain. The 6.5 is a great cal. but if you want the Rem. I would go with 7mm08 0
