Painting a Stock... what to use?

I've been re-working a shotgun. I've sanded down the stock and forarm, and now it's time to paint them black. Any suggestions on what to use? Any techniques that have worked well for you?christian

  Black Leather dye? I never would have guessed. Thank you for your reply... it sounds like just what I was looking for.christian

  I've just applied the first coat. It is BLACK!!! I have one last question. I was intending to add a polyurathane coat at the end... it's a satin finish. Is that advisable? Or should I just get some kind of furniture oil?christian

  i just finished a us 1917 enfield stock, used tru-oil by birchwod/casey, boy is that great stuff! easy to work with and super finish.[This message has been edited by UNIVERSITY50 (edited 03-26-2002).]
