Walther P38 or P?

I have a Walther P? It has a lightweight frame which makes me think it is a P1. It is stamped Made in West Germany, serial number 299###. There is a star on the takedown lever and a 68 around the trigger guard. The Slide is marked P38, etc, and is engraved on the flats, top, and barrel.Any ideas? I'll post photos as soon as I can.Roy

  I believe that you have a P38 made in 1968 at the rebuilt Walther factory in Zella Mehlis, and imported prior to the Interarms takeover. All of these guns had aluminum frames.Neal

  What do you think it is worth? It has some engraving, scroll work, and stipling on it. It's not to fancy, but better than a dremel. The gun is not mint so I don't think it takes away from value. What do you think the gun is worth?Roy
