Shipping Cost Question
We are fairly new to the GunBroker auctions and we have noticed that alot of the sellers charge alot for shipping, 25.00 plus for shipping a rifle, shotgun, etc. We have shipped a few USPS priority mail for aprox. 12.00 and we fill out the firearm shipping form. Why do others charge so much? Do they ship via different carriers?

Many of us use UPS or Fed EX which have much higher rates than the USPS. Sellers usually put a fixed amount down for shipping before the auction starts to cover them in case of situations of having to ship to far away states, insurance for the item, packaging up the item, paperwork for the transaction and so on. Shipping handguns also must go overnite via UPS which is a big time charge. We also charge $20-$25 for each item when sold. Basically though the bidder knows ahead of time the S@H cost so if they feel it is unreasonable then they shouldnt bid. 0 -
I'm just a little guy, not a dealer with big volumn and traffic, so, I can only tell ya what I do and feel comphy with.I don't like for a guy to spend any more than he hasta, especially due to my being responsible. I'm like you-all, I like for bidding to go sky-high on my stuff, but then, my concerns take over. What I do is to tell them to send me their address, I will put it on the package, make a dummy run, get the estimate, and relate the results.Whats wrong with that?....Some prolly think its a lotta runnin' around, but, I don't mind.Bob 0 -
I have purchased from one of GunBrokers regular sellers from TN and they charge a flat rate of $15 for shipping. I brought this to their attention one time and was told that they knew it would cost more to go to Alaska, but we eat that part of it and try to give every customer a good deal. I will deal with youngsguns anytime. They are really great business people.

Marsye: Next time, look up gun weight, addaprox 2 lbs. for box and packing. Sellerszip code is usually in add. On your computerlook up shipping rates for zip code to zip code with weight, add insurance. Distanceis the big thing. Then you KNOW what it should cost. 0 -
Let's not forget the incidental items. Boxes, (sometimes we have to buy them) strapping tape, bubble wrap, labels, styrofoam peanuts. I don't know about the rest of you, but I quickly run out of any recycled materials and have to use new, and them folks at the gettin' place CHARGE for that stuff.

boo hoo, I add that into my starting prices, and look up shipping cost on USPS web site for particular zip code. I feel that having a reserve and a starting price of .01 is bull$#%&, I let everyone know the least I'll take with the starting price. 0 -
Maybe my loss, but I will not even look at a Reserve Auction. 0 -
i recently bought 2 taps(6-48) for $9.the shipping was $6.50 when that company got done stuffing the LARGE envelope w/ads for everything they sell.these same taps could have sailed in a 33 cent envelope.if this isnt screwing the public, i dont know what is.
the hard stuff we do right away - the impossible takes a little longer0
