Garand Ammo
Looking for some ammo to feed my recently purchased CMP M1 Garand. My feeling was to buy ammo from CMP to insure proper headspacing for the Garand. They are sold out of the Federal 2001 National Match ammo. They do have for sale "NLU 402 .30-06 M2 Ball" for sale. Does anyone have any details on this ammo? Manufacturer? corrosive? Proper headspacing for Garand? etc.

A friend gave me about 2 hundred rounds of M1 ammo. Some say GOA 57 30, some FA 59 match, some LC 6 9. Are any of these corrosive? Thanks, mcaso 0 -
This is standard ball ammunition, manufactured at Lake City Arsenal in 1968 or 1969. It is not corrosive and it is the ammunition the Garand was designed to fire. The ammunition has nothing to do with headspace. All .30-06 ammuntion has the same case dimensions. The rifle is headspaced for the ammunition, not viceversa. 0 -
Griz, if you reload, they're easy to make.Standard published .30-06 load is Hornady 147grn FMJ + 48grns IMR4064;Any once fired brass will do...you can use military brass but you have to ream out the primer pockets...but the easiest is to simply pick up a couple hundred once fired Federal, Remington, or Winchester brass...mine puts two clips of ammo on a sheet of notebook paper at 300 yds, iron sights, from a bench 0 -
Try Federals 125gr. soft point. Mine drives tacks with it. I was nailing bowling pins at 200 meters every shot with this load. Found it just by accident when a buddy was shooting some and I said, "Let me try some of that."
