This subject was beaten to death within the last month on this board. I love my Swift. Out of the box, it shot .5 MOA with factory ammo, and I can do better w/ my own handloads. If you handload to velocities on the order of 3800 fps, despite the legends of throat erosion, the barrel will likely outlive you. Both are excellent cartridges and you won't be disappointed with either one. If 4100 fps holds some mystic charm for you (as it did for me when I originally purchased my Ruger almost 30 years ago), you can squeeze slightly higher velocities out of the Swift. Truth be told, though, I don't think the varmints can tell the difference. 0 -
THE CROWS CAN'T TELL THE DIFFERENCE PERSONALLY I LIKE THE RUGER 1 IN 22 250 IT SO MUCH MORE SPORTING WITH ONE SHOT

At 350 yards a bullet traveling 3700 fps will arrive at the target before the sound will, so unless you need to have higher velocitys or want to shoot longer ranges than I would just go with the 22-250. Cost wise the 22-250 would of course be better. Also if you wanted to down load to around 3500 fps, the 22-250 will keep better accuracy with several different bullets than the Swift will. 0 -
If you have a .30-06, use Accelerators;.224 / 55grn SP bullets @ 4100 FPS...my Remington 700 .30-06 shoots a 2" group with them at 200yds, and I'm not any sort of accomplished bench shooter, just a hunter; 0 -
jager,I have a ruger m77 v/t in 25-06 and love it, I also have just picked up a savage 12 fv in 22-250 and have found it to be very very fun and acurate to shoot. Both guns are 26" heavy barrels,The 77 is the varmit/target model laminated wood and the savage is black syn. stock. Both have large power optics on them and have been crowned two of my alltime favorites. Either way you can't go wrong or do as I and just get both.Good luck Rich
Remember,"your woman may not find you handsome, But atleast she'll find ya handy". I love that show..............0 -
I love my 220 SWIFT pre64 SUPERGRADE---shoots5 into an inch @200 with no problem. 0 -
By all means buy both, one with a heavy barrel and stock for useing with a rest and the other light and handy for traveling to and from a stand or pure hunting.I have the pair as described and they work well. One thing to remember, get the right ammo for the one you pack away from the transportation.I ruined a great hunt once by picking up the wrong ammo.5 dogs sat out at 75 yards and laughed at me.I gave them the finger but they just laughed harder.OH WELL.have fun. 0 -
I own several swifts and have only owned one 22-250. All have been Remington's. The only problem that I have with the swift is brass life. As for accuracy, it is always top-notch. Not that the 22-250 doesn't shoot straight. With a good handload and good scope, you won't be disappointed. I guess the best way to sum it up is, it's like eating steak v. hamburger. I like them both, but would always take the steak if forced to choose.

I got a 700 VSSF in 220 swift this summer, and love it. Accurate is an understatement.
I'm a man,....but I can change,.....If I have to,......I guess.0 -
Get the swift, everyone and their brother has a 22-250, and how about that extra 150-200 fps advantage over the 22-250. Dont let people tell you it is used for varmints strictly. I have used it on several ocasions to knock off an ole doe here in WV at 2 or 300 some odd yards. The 53 gr match hollow point in front of 42 gr of IMR-4350 will kill a deer deader than greases owl **** every time.
