Sending live ammunition from Australia to U.S.

Has anyone ever sent live ammunition (collectable cartridges)from Australia to the US .The only way I have found is by private courier and the amount quoted was nearly AUST$250.00 for sending 6 small rifle cartridges which is ridiculous .Any alternative methods would be greatly appreciated thanks.

  If you contact me "at home" I can give you the eml of officers in both the Australian and New Zealand Cartridge Collectors Associations - two of the finest gentlemen I've ever "met" on line.
