ar15 or similar
I am going to buy an ar15 or similar but i do not know which brand or what kind to get there are so many i would use the rifle for hunting and target shooting on a recent hog hunt another hunter had one and i could not belive the stopping power of it on 250-300pd.wild boars i knew i had to get one so i came home searched on the computer and found what seemed like 1000's of different brands and makes what is agood price and a good dealer here on gun broker to get one with thank you for your help. you are appreciated all advice is good advice.also ifyou could let me know why you like the ones you do and hunting experiences with them.Bless all those that help Thank you

It is a Chinese menu because of all the choices of models,upper receivers and arrangements. The lightest and handiest is the 16" carbine with pencil barrel. The heaviest is the 20" Hbar. Make yourself aware of the different barrel styles and weights but dont consider less than a 16" barrel because you wont get the 2800 fps velocity needed for the killing effect you witnessed on the hunt. Get either a chrome lined or stainless barrel. For best accuracy, an adjustable trigger and a free floating handguard are musts. For my liking, the balance of the Hbar 16" and 20" is too muzzle heavy. Light weight or military profile handles faster. You can always buy or assemble additional uppers like 24 or 26" Hbar uppers for plugging horseflies at the 200 yd range or a 6mmx45 for deer hunting where 22s aren't permitted.Look at the Bushmaster and Olympic arms websites and spend some time on the www.AR15.com website before you buy. 0 -
I think that experienced shooters posting on this site generally recommend A-B-C (Armalite-Bushmaster-Colt), and in that order. Some of the other brands are OK, but someone new to AR's might be better advised to stick with the best.My preference is Colt, partially because of the quality and partially because of the name brand; there will never be a problem selling it. Keep the original box and all accessories, and don't ruin it by swapping parts for something "better". And, don't pay extra for "pre-ban" unless you routinely bayonet the animals you hunt.Neal 0 -

I wouldn't piss on a Colt to keep it out of a smelter!!There are so few that take USGI parts it makes my bowels cramp.Collectors buy them.Shooters do not.Hinge pins,trigger pins,hammer pins.cpermd 0 -
SorryThat was too biased.I can sell you an AR that will have a Preban lower with all the rest Colt M16 parts that have been BATF converted to AR parts for around $1300.The lower was sold as a gun prior to Aug 1994 and has papers.I think I have 24 left now.But I won't cause these are part of my retirement plan.Colt lowers still suck penii.cpermd 0 -

There is no difference in accuracy.You can have a flashider,bayonet lug,and telestock on a preban.That is why this pre and post stuff is so silly.cpermd 0 -
i just went through the same thing . after all the reading and asking questions i bought a rock river arms with a 20" hbar .my gunsmith ( a nam vet) was impressed withthe entire gun .it came in clean and the fit & funtion perfect .i bought it at a very good price on gb , i am very happy with it . i'm now looking for a second one to obtain a different configure (a flat top to mount optics ) on gb.com look for youngs guns , he has a good selection at good prices .i'm looking very hard at a bushmaster . the chrome lined barrel and bore impress me as this will be my plinking gun and will be shot alot (easy to clean with less wear )fron what i understand the unlined barrels,like my rra are slightly more accurate but need a little more attention during cleaning and storage . don't be afraid to buy a chrome barrel though, many people get great accuracy out of them .as far as buying a colt or an armilite i feel the extra money isn't justified , a bushy is equal in quality and less money .[This message has been edited by hdwrench (edited 03-07-2002).] 0
