dry firing on empties

Yes, actually, most (all?) modern revolvers with a transfer bar system can be dry fired without harm (but I still use snap caps anyway, why take any chance). However, be VERY careful that the empties are EMPTY. I prefer the bright orange or red of a snap cap as an additional visual assurance that it ain't gonna go BANG!

I agree, most modern firearms (except for .22's) can be dry fired occasionally without harm. Spent cases can be used in a pinch, but snaps are better.
