    Could somebody please tell me the difference between a .38 special and .38 s&w special.Thanks in advance for the help.

    The case dia.of the S&W is larger. Working pressure for the S&W is 14,900 whereas the Special is 18,900. The S&W case is also much shorter, more like a 9mm.[This message has been edited by oneshy (edited 03-03-2002).]

    The .38 S&W Special and the .38 Special are the same thing. There is also a .38 S&W. The 38 S&W uses a larger diameter bullet and won't fit in the chamber of the 38 special.The 38 Special was created by S&W in the early 1900's by lengthening the 38 Long Colt. Thus the name 38 S&W special, Later the name was shortened to just 38 special.WOODS
