Black powder 12 shotgun shells
I have an old 12 gauge remington shot gun. I would like to load some 12 guage shells for the gun. does anyone know any info on how i could loads shells using black power or pyrodex power? I have a mec reloader and load many smokless shelles a year. I just wondered if i could use plactic shells and modern wads and primers to load the ammo. i understand i would have to measure the powder by hand but could i use a mondern wad for the shot if i cut the bottom of it off. My e-mail is 4hugars@nbn.netThanks again Rob

Years back I did a few of those here is what I did.I found some one piece molded plastic hulls that used a paper filler wad at the bottom (not a plastic sleeve / wad style) and removed the paper filler (easier when wet) Added in my hand measured 3 Drams of BPUsed a standard wad with the shot-cup fingers cut off.Topped off with 1 1/8 oz of shot, and crimped. You will find that with the bulk of BP in there that a AA type hull dosn't have nearly enough room. 0 -
I never loaded BP shotshells, but possibly those little Alcan 1/4" plastic wads would work w/o all the cutting? I might have some kicking around under my bench if you'd like to give it a try. 0 -

Thanks for all the info. i made about 25-30 rounds and took them to the range on saterday. Every one wanted to shoot the old gun. I had a great time. Cleaning the gun is the worst part i used pyodex slect powder that cleans up pretty good. THANKS AGAIN 0
