I've seen them new in my area (Texas) in the $210-$240 price range. The only used one I've seen was excellent condition with minor wear on the slide for $150.

The Sub-9 had a lot of metal parts which drove up the cost; they were retailing in the $550 range--too high for a pistol-chambered carbine.Which is why Kel-Tec redesigned the whole thing, making it with a lot of polymer parts, and changing the name to the "Sub-2000". Suggested retail on the Sub-2000 was intially given by Kel-Tec as $288. They're selling for more than that now as demand is high.Whether or not the Sub-9 will become "collectable" is hard to tell--Kel-Tec is a fairly new firearm manufacture; maybe 50 or 100 years from now a Sub-9 will be something worth "big bucks" as people try to "complete their collections" of Kel-Tecs. Who knows? If you just want something to shoot though, you'd probably be better off with the Sub-2000. You'll probably be able to get them for $225-250 after supply catches up with demand.

The Sub 9 should be worth at least $300 or more. They were over $500 2-4 years ago. The new SUB 2000 is still very difficult to get and their suggested retail is near $400 now. The SUB 2000 is costing less than the SUB 9, but availability remains tight. I've got two of them available right now, but their serial numbers are still running under 1000. They didn't become available until late last year. They remain difficult to get. The new ones are running $345-365. A used one at $250 for the original SUB 9 is a good deal. What magazine is it set up for? There are a few features of the SUB 9 that are preferred over the SUB 2000.

It sounds like autin247 is talking about Kel-Tec pistols, not the Sub-9. If not, send me all the rare Sub-9 rifles that have slides on them, especially for $150! The Sub-9 retailed for $750-800 and commonly sold in the $500 range. I would think used ones would be at least $400 until the supply of the new Sub-2000 begins to meet the demand for those just looking for a shooter. While I prefer to pay less than more, I thought the unique Sub-9 was worth what it cost. Where else can you find a folding rifle that will fit in a brief case? I reworked some 30-round Triple K and USA magazines so they were reliable and would go into my Sub-9. That is a pretty potent package to carry in your brief case. The new Sub-2000 has some improvements over the Sub-9, like a better guard to keep you from pinching your finger when you hold too high on the charging handle and squeeze some skin into the slot as the handle goes forward. Ouch. Blood. It is my understanding that the new Sub-2000 will accept Beretta, SIG and S&W magazines without modification, and Glock magazines with a grip change. Can anyone verify that? How about you, lrarmsx?

Judge, the grip assembly is not a seperate piece on the SUB 2000 like it was on the SUB 9. The grip is part of the receiver assembly housing. The way the mag release is set up on the SUB 2000, it appears that to go from the S&W, to the Beretta, to the Sig, you will need to change out the over sized mag release. By over sized, I mean it is elongated up and down, allowing for the mag catch notch to be varied, with the basic mag body dimensions being about the same, just the release notch in a different location. With the Glock variation I don't think you'll be able to change as the mag body being a larger diameter. I've only had the Glock variation and the S&W variation so far. Instead of changing the entire grip assembly, you'll just have to change the mag release to go from one to the other. The Glock grip being the exception. As far as I can tell, there will be no changing on that one.BTW another change is that they don't stay open on the last shot. They also have a differently designed safety.

lrarmsx, I have been thinking about getting a Sub-2000. You seem to have experience with them. Anything you might care to share + or - would be helpful. I would be especially interested in a comparison versus Ruger PC9 and Marlin Camp 9: trigger pull, accuracy, ease of disassembly for cleaning, tolerance for various brands of ammo, reliability, etc.

lrarmsx, thanks for the information. If the new Sub-2000 will not stay open on the last shot, that makes the used Sub-9 worth a lot more in my opinion. I guess maybe I will not buy a Sub-2000 after all. Does a "non-Glock" Sub-2000 come with three different magazine latches? In scanning the accessories, I did not see any magazine latches listed. Did I miss something?

Gordian, I have handled the SUB 2000, but have not shot one thus far. The ones I have are new unfired and for sale. As to the specifics on the gun, I'm not sure the comparisons are fair, but I'll give it a try. The most distinct features of the Sub 2000 are its ability to take various pistol magazines, giving you the ability of using the same mags in your rifle as you do your pistol. The Ruger uses only the Ruger mag and the Marlin uses only the S&W mag. There have been companies that will modify your Ruger or Marlin to take other mags.More significant is the SUB 2000's ability to fold and fit into a much smaller area. This compact carrying ability gives the Keltec some advatages over the competition if concealability is a factor. The general handling characteristics of the SUB 2000 are good. They have improved the sights over the SUB 9. As for the trigger pull, I'd have to say that it is average for the guns of today. Cleaning is easy with the barrel being able to fold so you can access the barrel, chamber, and breach face without disassembly. General comfort of the stock would probably have to go to the Ruger or Marlin. Price goes to the SUB 2000. The SUB 2000 looses the price point if you include the Hi-Point into the mix however. Gun Test magazine recently rated the Hi-Point over the Ruger, amazing , but true. The Marlin is no longer made so finding a used one or a new one that is still just sitting around is the trick. The Ruger is big and heavy and like all Rugers. is over built for the task. The Hi-Point is simplistic and cheap, but the gun remains very popular in certain circles. Its handling characteristics are decent, but many find it still feels cheap. (For those of you that owned a Hi-Point years ago, they have made some internal changes that are supposed to be an improvement over the older models.) The company has a lifetime warranty and seem to really mean it. As for the Keltec SUB 2000. I like the feel of the grip. The sights are good, but the gun is not as comfortable to put up to your face as some of the others. Again the main novelty of the gun to me, is the ability to use Beretta, Sig, or Glock mags. If you have one of those pistols, mag interchangeability could be a convenience or even a life saver given the right (or wrong) circumstances. There are some tactical accessories available for the SUB 2000 that might cause some to get excited as well, light mounts, mag holders, etc. Overall, I'd say the Kel-Tec SUB 2000 is well made. As for accuracy and reliability with different ammo. I can only assume that they would have tested that before the release of the gun last year. The Kel-Tec pistols have proven to be reliable enough for a great number of LEO's and regular folks to rely on them as a constant companion carry piece. I doubt that Kel-Tec would have let their guard down in that area when testing this rifle. The primary systems in the SUB 2000 are those of their SUB 9 series gun which has been around for years, so there is a high likelihood that this gun will perform well. When it all comes down to it, it has to be the right gun for you, the right gun for the job. Judge, as for your inquiry, my comment on the mag release interchangability is somewhat supposition. The mag release button as I mentioned is highly elongated, much more so than neccessary. The only reason to do that is so that they can make a primary form molding and use various catches to accommodate the different mags. As you well know the bodies of most mags are similar, the location of the mag catch varies and the follower design differs from one to the next. By not incorporating a last shot hold open feature, the differing followers are irrelevant. There is no lever to catch, so the height and position of the follower (and its slide stop ledge) doesn't make any difference. Until I can get another variation of the rifle with a different mag design, I can't be sure of the mag catch interchangeability. When the guns come from the factory, they come with a Mec-Gar magazine if it is a S&W, Sig, or Beretta, the Glock mag variant comes with an actual Glock factory mag. Mec-Gar uses the same basic mag body for the different mags S&W, Beretta, Sig, Ruger, Taurus, Walther, etc. Consequently there is reason to believe that a variable mag release button should accommodate the differnt mags that the SUB 2000 is designed to use. I hope I have been able to answer some of your questions.

lrarmsx, that's great input, many thanks. Your explanation of why no hold-open and how that relates to the ability to take different mags made a great deal of sense. The Sub-2000 is still on my list, but below a few other things, so it will be a while before I get one. I hope they aren't outlawed before I get one.
