My Winchester book says few records exists for production of model 1897 after WWII but serial number 1,000,000 was presented to John M. Olin in 1951. It would be reasonable to assume your gun was made the year before. The 1999 Blue Book says the value for the 1897 in 100% condition (this means exactly as it came from the factory) is $750 plus 30% for 16 Ga. If is a trap or pigeon grade the value is substantially greater.

Manufactured 1954; Value at 100% (IE, you have the original box and papers): somewhere around $900.

My sources say the same, around 900 if perfect. Although more to the right buyer, say for sentimental reasons.
