AK muzzle brake

I am converting my MAK 90 over to pistol grip configuration. It will have 10 or less of the section 922 foreign parts to make it legal. Some posts state a muzzle brake used with a pistol grip must be welded on, others seem to say a foreign made muzzle brake does not have to be welded on to be used with a pistol grip.Does anyone know? Thanks.
