Relieving Mag Floorplate on Short Guns.
Has anyone shortened the lip on their mag floorplates? Does it have an effect on the mag? I have a Kimber Ultra Carry that I use Wilson Mags in. The bottom of the mag (plastic) sticks out in front of the grip frame. I was thinking about taking a Dremel to it to make it flush with the grip frame. I also am having the same problem with my Colt Mustang mags, but the floorplates on those are steel. Any ideas

You should have no problems as long as you dont grind away anywhere that attaches the floorplate to the mag body. Shouldnt be an issue with the front lip.Note that if your mag does not drop free, you may have some problems getting it out of the Mustang.

Good point! Both are drop free. This only bothers me on short guns. The lip kinda digs in on my fingers. Longer grip frames (full size) not problem, they are under the pinky. 0 -
use a belt sander instead of Dremel for a nice, smooth and easy job. I routinely cut the lip or finger rest extension off the mags for my carry guns to reduce printing. Also round off the right rear corner of the frame for the same reason. 0 -
They are like that for a very specific reason. Say you are in the middle of a firefight or a really important shoot, and you get a double feed jam where its vital for you to remove the clip, but of coarse with a double feed jam it wont drop free. So you grab that little bit of feed lip and pull it out. 0
