really need advice on scope for mini 14

want to buy a scope for my stainless mini 14 ranch rifle. But I know very, very little about scopes and if I am not careful I will just buy the first one that looks right and then later have to buy the "right" scope. I am hoping someone will be good enough to give me advice so I can get the right scope the first time. I want a stainless or silver colored since my gun is stainless. I like the scopes I have seen that allow the user to "zoom" in out and out quickly (kind of like an adjustable telephoto lens). I would llike to be able to see and hit a target at the maximum effective range of the mini 14. And, lastely, since I am so cheap I would like to not pay over $100.00. Any comments?

good luck.....sorry, couldn't resist being a smarta**. But you are asking a lot for under $100. In that price range, I guess the only thing available would be the lower-end Simmons and Tasco stuff. I had a Simmons 3-9x40 "8 Point" on my Mini 30 for a while, didn't like it. Best of luck to you.

The very best scope for that money would be the Bushnell Trophy series 3-9x40 wide angle. I think Natchezss.com has them for around that price. I have good luck with them for cheaper scopes.

I have an inexpensive Tasco on my Mini-14; I forget what line it is--Tasco has different qualities for their different lines. I paid less than $100 for it--but I bought it from a major sporting goods store when they went out of business--it was atleast half-price.Since, as most will tell you here, the Mini-14 is not know for being "super accurate", a $1000 scope wouldn't make sense on it.I'm satisfied with my "cheap" scope; but then I've never owned any really expensive scopes to compare it to! And has already suggested, Natchez's has some pretty good deals. If GB will allow the link: http://www.natchezss.com

The optics weren't very clear and after about 300 rounds, the crosshairs had shifted. I noticed Bear Basin (www.bearbasin.com) has a Baush & Lomb Elite 3000 3-9x40 in silver for a tad more than $100 ($139). I haven't had any experience with it, but it has a lifetime warranty.
