Remington 700 with heavy barrel. 0 -
All good quality guns are accurate out of the box. I have always had good luck with Remington's, Browning's, Ruger's, Sako's, and Weatherby's. But the best two out of the box guns I ever owned were a Howa 1500 and a Savage 110. They were also the least expensive of the bunch.

I'd have to agree, most of the heavy barrel models are very accurate out of the box. I'd have to say the most consistant is the Ruger #1 though. RG 0 -
What kind of range do you want to shoot? 0 -
I just picked up a savage 12 fv,Which is a black syn with a heavy 26". Right out of the box brand new after putting 20 break-in rounds through it I was shooting dime groups with factory ammo. Gun was 400.00 and I went through the same thing, rem 700 vls,vs,vssf.

I would personaly spend the extra $$$ and get the 700 vssf. 0 -
WHY???I was going to do that and then asked myself that. So I put the extra into a better scope.

Yea, I'd get a Savage and spend the leftover money on a really good scope. Because the scope should last longer than the barrel.

Had a gunsmith friend of mine tell me years ago that out of the box... a 700 Rem was the most accurate weapon. We are NOT talking indiviual weapons, but as an average lot. You did ask which weapon was the most accurate, right? ...NOT the cheapest?Good Luck! ...Mark[This message has been edited by 11echo (edited 03-05-2002).] 0 -
i'd spend the extra money on both. But that's just my way of thinking. I always consider resale value when purchasing. $400 new=$275-$300used $650 new=$475-$500 used. Who knows what your income will be in 5 years? if you like the caliber, you can put a better bull barrel on the 700 and have the action trued. Pillar bed the new barrel, adjust the factory trigger and voila, damn close to custom for 1/2 the price. Plus the stock is an HS precision with the aluminum bedding block. just my .02 0
