Price it so it will cost more than the action alone is worth. If you want to be sure it is "honored," keep it in your family and never sell it. However, if you sell it, you have given up your right to say what happens to it. To find out what is it worth, put it on the auction site with lots of good pictures.

The 1999 Blue Book of Gun Values lists a pre-64 model 70 standard weight in .30-'06 cal as having a retail value of $750 if in 100% condition. The featherweight model is listed at $825. The standard weight rifle has a third screw holding the stock and receiver together. This screw will be in the forearm. If the rifle only has the screws in front and back of the triggerguard, it is a Featherweight.Prices may have increased slightly since 1999.

I sold one of my pre-64 Win in .270 caliber 10 years ago for $700. It was in very good condition and had been shot less than 50 rounds. I still have a shorter barrel one with a B $ L variable scope that I shoot once in a while that I intend to give to my Granddaughters husband before I die.
